Peaklip is a Windows app that turns your videos into short clips. It's built so that your videos never leave your PC unless you choose to post a clip. This page explains exactly what we store and why.
The short version
- Your videos and clips stay on your PC. Transcription, AI and rendering run locally. We never receive your footage.
- Your Peaklip account stores your name, email address and sign-in details on our server.
- Your YouTube and Instagram connections are stored only on your PC, in Windows Credential Manager. We never see them.
- This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
What our server stores
When you create an account and sign in, our server keeps:
- your name and email address;
- your password as a one-way scrypt hash — never the password itself;
- email confirmation codes (hashed, valid for 15 minutes) and sign-in sessions (stored only as a hash);
- a device identifier for the PC you sign in from — a one-way hash, not your Windows ID itself — used to keep sign-ins and free trials fair;
- records of recent sign-in and code attempts (which can include your IP address), used only to block password guessing and cleared out over time;
- bug reports you choose to send, with your email so we can follow up.
We use this only to run your account, keep it secure and answer your reports. We don't sell it, rent it or use it for advertising.
What stays on your PC
Your imported videos, transcripts, found moments, rendered clips, post text, settings and the logins for the platforms you connect are stored on your own computer. Peaklip's local AI (speech recognition and moment ranking) runs on your PC too.
Posting to YouTube and Instagram
When you connect YouTube or Instagram, you sign in on the platform's own page and Peaklip receives an access key that is saved in Windows Credential Manager on your PC. When you post a clip, it is uploaded directly from your PC to that platform. Peaklip only uses this access to upload the clips you approve and to show which account is connected — never to read, change or delete anything else. You can disconnect at any time in the app, and revoke access in your Google account or Meta settings.
Peaklip's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
TikTok isn't connected at all: Peaklip prepares the clip and caption, and you post it yourself on TikTok.
Who helps us run it
- Railway hosts our account server and its database.
- An email delivery service sends your confirmation and password-reset codes.
- GitHub Pages hosts this website and may keep standard web-server logs for security.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account exists. Confirmation codes expire after 15 minutes, and sign-in attempt records are cleared out over time. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account data and bug reports, except anything we're legally required to keep.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how it's used, by emailing hello@peaklip.com. We'll answer within 30 days. If you're in the EU, the UK or Türkiye, you also have the right to complain to your data-protection authority.
Children
Peaklip isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly create accounts for them.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
